March Learn how and when to remove this template message CARDE, the Canadian Armament and Research Development Establishment, was formed as a joint Canadian-British operation to study artillery and ballistics, in an effort to harness the intellectual resources of Canada, as well to place developing British technology outside of German reach during World War II. Formed up on a military training area and artillery range outside Valcartier , northwest of Quebec City , CARDE was one of a number of research divisions of the DRB that were well funded in the immediate post-war era. CARDE was researching supersonic flight and a variety of rocket and missile projects when Bull was asked to join. Bull asked to build a wind tunnel for this research, but his suggestions were dismissed as too expensive. As a proof of concept, they tried an Ordnance QF pounder barrel bored to 3. Borrowing an idea developed in England in , cards were placed on holders along the range and scaled models of the missile fired through them. The models were carried in a segmented aluminum sabot, which peeled away as the round left the muzzle.

Kon-El is depicted as a modern incarnation of the original Superboy. Art by Tom Grummett. After the death of Superman at the hands of a kryptonian Doomsday , Project Cadmus Executive Director Paul Westfield wanted to create a clone replacement of Superman that would follow the agendas of Project Cadmus as well as his own personal agenda. After failed attempts to acquire Superman’s DNA which included an attempt to steal his corpse , Westfield decided to genetically alter a human clone to look like Superman and made the clone to be the closest human equivalent to a Kryptonian as they could based on their research.
During their research when they had Superman’s body, Westfield’s scientists discovered a bio-electric aura surrounding Superman’s body that provided some of Superman’s powers such as invulnerability, flight through a form of self-telekinesis, protection from getting dirty and protection from skin-tight clothing to be damaged. The aura was translated into a telekinetic field for a human that would give the clone the ability to simulate Superman’s powers such as flight, invulnerability, and strength.

So when two young girls go hiking on a canceled school day and record their adventure on Snapchat, nobody expected the devastating turn of events, but people were hopeful the case would be solved quickly. This is the disappearance and murder of year-old Abigail Williams and year-old Liberty German. Abigail Williams and Liberty German were two best friends in the 8th grade at Delphi Community Middle School in Delphi, Indiana — a small Midwestern town consisting of fewer than 3, residents, known for its blue-collared workers, avid hunters and fishers, and the annual Delphi Bacon Festival.
They gravitated to each other from a young age because of similar interests and were practically inseparable ever since. Like the community around them, they thoroughly enjoyed spending their days experiencing nature by hiking, fishing, camping, and riding ATVs. Sports also played a big role in their lives.

By Thomas Levy and David Noel Freedman February Although the great American scholar William Foxwell Albright passed away many years ago, he is still regarded by most Levantine archaeologists, biblical scholars, and other Near Eastern researchers of the world of the Bible as a genius. Albright was a master of so many disciplines linked to the study of the ancient Near East, in particular the world of the Old Testament Hebrew Bible , that he is considered one of the last great orientalists.
Having its origins as far back as the 12th century, orientalism was the study of the synthetic and simultaneous study of the history, languages, and culture of the peoples of Asia. Even today ASOR American Schools of Oriental Research , the flagship scholarly organization that Albright helped develop in the 20th century, retains the name that harkens back to the days when orientalism had a positive connotation.

Rocco incorporates strategies such as optimum nutrition, strategic nutritional supplementation, allergy elimination and the use of certain functional pathology tests in the elucidation and treatment of a number of complex, chronic conditions. Rocco has a particular interest in individually tailored, patient-centred nutrition intervention programs and the justifiable, evidence-based, strategic use of pharmaceutical grade natural nutritional supplements as a treatment adjunct in treating the cause of disease and alleviation of patient symptomatology.
Of particular interest to Rocco is the phenomenon of hypochlorhydria and achlorhydria little or no stomach acid production and its potential implication in the development and progression of a variety of chronic diseases as well as a range of undesirable symptoms, including digestive ones. Such is his interest that he is one of the first practitioners in Australia seeking to make available technology together with Dr.

It is hoped that this technology will be available to patients in the second half of The nutrition service offered at the variety of venues around metropolitan Melbourne focuses on holistic, integrative and expressive health care, with the ultimate aim of focusing on the treatment of disease rather than simply the allopathic alleviation of symptoms.
Nutritional supplements are only recommended when their likely benefit can be clearly demonstrated and clearly as part of a systematic, strategic and goal oriented health plan. Rocco also provides consultations in Italian. As a result of his past employment as a community Dietitian, Rocco is a strong advocate of community development and health promotion principles, recognising that failure to invest in social infrastructure to help build healthy communities significantly encourages disease development and progression.
As a result of his interests, Rocco regularly appears on radio, regularly convenes and facilitates seminars and conferences, lectures to health professionals and the public on a wide variety of topics involving nutrition, and frequently writes articles for both scientific journals and health-oriented magazines.
Rocco has recently contributed a chapter in the recently published book:
Linnen involves experimental and field-based studies on the behaviour of metals in high temperature-pressure silicate melts and aqueous fluids. Field-based studies establish the parameters that control metal enrichment in mineral deposits. Parallel to this experimental work includes determining the solubilities and stabilities of metals and minerals in silicate melts and the partitioning of metals between, silicate melts, aqueous fluids and minerals Email Biological and Geological Sciences Building, Rm.

May 21, , Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics Now you don’t see it; now you do – the image of a galaxy from a time when the universe was only a billion years old. The left image, from Hubble, sees nothing in the sky, but the longer wavelength infrared image from Spitzer right sees a bright source. The intense star formation activity in the galaxy, its distance, and the expansion of the universe combine to make it appear in the infrared.
The Sun and its system of planets formed about five billion years ago. What happened, then, during that long, intervening stretch of nearly nine billion years? This is one of the key questions in modern science. Astronomers think that the very first stars and galaxies appeared only a few hundreds of millions of years after the big bang, and have been evolving ever since.
They must have been quite different from the stars and galaxies of today, however, in part because the young universe lacked most of the chemical elements present today – those elements were made gradually in the nuclear furnaces of those stars. Modern telescopes and infrared and submillimeter techniques have recently enabled astronomers to spot significant numbers of very distant galaxies and begin to piece together a picture of cosmic evolution. Galaxies often undergo bursts of star formation that make their dust glow in the infrared.
In fact, recent results suggest that at some cosmic epochs star formation was as much as ten times more active than it is today. The power of infrared is twofold:
