Wikimedia Deutschland speed dating at Wikimania Usually advance registration is required for speed dating events. Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short “dates” usually lasting from three to eight minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle to signal the participants to move on to the next date.
At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face. Requirement for each event vary with the organizer. Specific age range based on gender is a common restriction for events.
Many speed dating events are targeted at particular communities: Unlike many bars, a speed dating event will, by necessity, be quiet enough for people to talk comfortably. Participants can come alone without feeling out of place; alternatively it is something that women who like to go out in groups can do together. On the other hand, feedback and gratification are delayed as participants must wait a day or two for their results to come in.

History[ edit ] The clock was re-discovered in , set aside in the cathedral tower. At that time it had a pendulum , which appeared to have been installed at a later date, replacing a verge and foliot. The clock was restored in , and a reproduction verge and foliot were installed. There were no drawings or documents available, and it is possible that the original foliot and verge escapement did not look exactly like the one now installed in the clock. The striking train of the clock is believed to be original.
Many of the photos originally shown here, and some which remain, were taken by him years ago when he was just getting interested into railroad photography and railfanning. Understandably, the quality of some of these older photos is not high. Jones has been travelling around the Carolinas for many years hunting out present and former stations and photographing them.
He has contributed several hundred excellent photos of depots and other railroad structures for this site. Because of the higher quality of digital photography, in some cases, Mr. Jones’ photos have replaced those which originally appeared on this site. Many of these photos depict stations which no longer exist. We also thank Rev. David Carriker for providing his extensive collection of historic depot photographs and Lynn McConnell whose research into the history of North Carolina depots has been an invaluable asset in aiding us to properly identify a number of the photographs on these pages.

Mr Putin, speaking on Tuesday in Ankara following talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, cited the head of Britain’s defence laboratory who said that its scientists have not identified the precise source of the nerve agent used to attack former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia. Mr Putin said, given the lack of precise information about the agent’s origin, “the speed at which the anti-Russian campaign has been launched causes bewilderment”.

Name[ edit ] Documents from the 17th century variously render the spelling of Tisquantum’s name as Tisquantum, Tasquantum, and Tusquantum, and alternately call him Squanto, Squantum, Tantum, and Tantam. William Bradford nicknamed him “Squanto” while Edward Winslow invariably referred to him by what historians believe is his proper name, Tisquantum. Rather it was “the spiritual potency of an object … or a phenonmenon,” the force which made “everything in Nature responsive to man.
The name may suggest, for example, that he underwent special spiritual and military training as a pniesesock, or otherwise , and for this reason was selected for his role as liaison with the English settlers in see below. The indigenous culture from which Squanto came[ edit ] “[T]he time and circumstances of Squanto’s birth are unknown. For the rest of the legend, see Pilgrim Hall Museum. While records do not exist which describe his childhood or years before his abduction, a description of the social world in which he lived during his formative years may provide some insight.
Squanto himself told an English trader that the Patuxet once numbered 2,
Retired railwaymen and steam fans gathered at Guildford railway station on Farnham Road bridge on Sunday July 9 for the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate Guildford’s engine shed that closed exactly 50 years ago. In his speech to around 40 people who gathered at the pedestrian entrance to the car park, Geoff Burch said – ‘It doesn’t seem that long ago when Pat Kinsella and I departed from here aboard our respective locomotives BR Standard Class 5 Nos and to go light-engines to Salisbury, not forgetting the other drivers and firemen who left here that day.
This occasion was originally an idea of another old steam colleague, Bill Moore, who thought it would be a good idea for a few of us to meet up here and go for a drink afterwards. However, Bill Bunce, Pat Kinsella and I put our heads together and came up with an idea which has ended up a full-blown plaque unveiling ceremony! Also I must thank the following people who have generously made donations towards the costs of the plaque; without them, it wouldn’t have been possible:

Dec24 My final bus driving duty of involved a road cone, a Bristol Lodekka and a witch. My conductor and I brought ex-Bath Services Bristol LG6G EHW down to Bridgwater College on the last day of term when traditionally the sixth form college students and staff dress up and do all sorts of wacky stuff in the name of charity. We had been given a route to follow, which was very similar to the one taken by the famous Bridgwater Carnival procession. As soon as I had parked the bus in one of the departure bays at the college we knew we were in the right place as almost every person that passed by was wearing a fancy dress costume of some sort.
Pirates, road cones, bananas, clowns… and of course the aforementioned witch. The lady in question pictured above actually organised the bus tours we were about to provide and her costume was, as you can see, a work of art. She had planned for us to take groups of students and staff on a minute circuit of Bridgwater town centre. As part of the trip each team had to take part in a quiz based on notable buildings that we passed on our way around.
There were also a couple of questions relating to the bus and the teams had to listen carefully to my little welcome speech to pick up clues. The bus was never full and the route was free of gradients so driving the Lodekka was certainly not arduous. In fact my outfit looked quite tame compared to some of the others!
